To find your version of health and fitness, you need to learn how. Many of the things you’ve been told are not only wrong, they are making you fat, weak and sick. On the podcast, we’ll sort through the science and talk to experts, to give you the knowledge to succeed. Knowledge is the power that moves us through our health and fitness journey.
We all struggle to stay on point during our health and fitness journey. I want to come along with you and give you the encouragement you need to stay on track. I will be your biggest fan, showing you how, despite how hard it might seem to get healthy and fit, it is within reach. I did it, other people are doing it, and you will too!
Okay, maybe this is a stretch goal. It is my hope that you’ll use each episode as a companion for your daily workout. Let’s take the work out of workout, making it a little easier and passing a little faster. We’ll get through it together.
Unlike many of the health and fitness gurus you’ll find out there, I was not always fit. I was an athlete up through my late 20’s (nothing to get too excited about, but I was in good shape). My slide began when I was 32 and by the time I was 37, I had gone from fit to obese. When I say obese, I mean I was over 40% body fat. My blood work made it clear, I wouldn’t be on the right side of the grass in another 37 years.
For the next ten years, I rode the weight loss roller coaster. Up and down, up and down, but the trend always seemed to be on the up. That’s great for a stock portfolio, but not good when it is your waistline. I often tried the things I had done when I was fit, but I just couldn’t solve the health and fitness puzzle.
I made a decision to invest in my health the same way I had always invested in my retirement, because let’s face it, if I didn’t do something about my health, I wouldn’t need the money I had invested.
I invested in my education, earning the NASM Certified Personal Trainer and I’ve added the Fitness Nutrition Specialty and the Corrective Exercise Specialty. I’m continuing my education by adding specialties and reading health and fitness books and listening to podcasts. I spend every day absorbing, evaluating, and learning.
I also invest in multiple gym memberships and I buy high quality food. Your body is constantly working to rebuild itself and make it ready for the next challenge. I believe if you workout and provide good food to your body, it will get better. So far, my investment is showing a great return. Considering the cost of being ill in old age, the biggest payoff is yet to come.
Now the reality check, my efforts haven’t returned me to how I looked and felt when I was 32, but I can say my biological age is younger than my chronological age. I don’t look and feel like I’m 49, okay almost 50.
Each week, the 40+ Fitness Podcast will have three episodes where I pledge to bring you the best interviews and general content to help you on your health and fitness journey.
